The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Studies (ECS) prepares CI students to work effectively with young children from birth through eight years of age and their families. Our program develops the knowledge and skills necessary to work with the youngest community members, including the embedding of substantive training in language acquisition and literacy for early childhood Dual Language Learners across the program. In completing the major, ECS students acquire the competencies to serve both typically and atypically developing young children within the natural settings of home, community, and schools.

Year 1 - 30 units

Fall Junior - 15 units

SPED 345 - Individuals with Disabilities in Society Units: 3
ECS 310 - Science Technology Engineering Art and Math in Early Childhood Units: 2
ECS 320 - Teaching And Learning Programs For Early Care And Development Units: 3
ECS 322 - Early Childhood Program Administration Units: 3
ECS 325 - Typical & Atypical Development: Birth - Age 8 Units: 3
Student’s Choice of Free Elective course. Units: 1
Needed for 120 Unit Requirement - Can be any class, any major, any level 100-499 that you have not earned previous credit for.
Recommendations/Notes
- This two-year roadmap assumes that all GE’s and Lower Division Major Requirements have been completed.
- Schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor in the Academic Advising Center
- Attend Major Fair (First Week of October)

Course counts for Multicultural Perspectives (MP) Graduation Requirement.
EDUC 475 - Language In Social Context (Cross-listed as ENGL 475) Units: 3
UDGE B - Student’s Choice of UDGE-B: Scientific Inquiry and Quantitative Reasoning course - 3 units Units: 3
Recommended: MATH 308 or any UDGE-B course
UDGE C - Student’s Choice of UDGE-C: Arts and Humanities course - 3 unit Units: 3
Recommended: EDUC 343 or any UDGE-C course
