ANTH 214 - Anthropology in Science Fiction: Monsters, flying apes, and cyborgs

Three hours lecture per week
Examines science fiction literature and media though an anthropological lens to address the fundamental question of “What makes us human?” Explores the interrelationships between science fiction and the social sciences, looking at historical and cultural contexts of the production and consumption of science fiction and fandoms. Themes include human evolution, cultural diversity and “the other”, technical innovation, imaginary humanity (utopias and dystopias), and the future. Repeat 2 times up to 6 units
