The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture program provides students with a comprehensive education in food and farming systems, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to support long-term agricultural sustainability. This interdisciplinary degree integrates natural sciences, social sciences, and hands-on learning, ensuring graduates are prepared to address modern agricultural challenges while fostering ecological and social responsibility. Students gain expertise in plant science, soil science, pest management, labor rights, and food system social movements while participating in practical training through fieldwork and active learning in the classroom. The program also emphasizes community engagement through internships, with partnerships in local farming communities offering valuable exposure to real-world college-to-career pathways. By bridging biological and ecological sciences with an understanding of social justice issues shaping agricultural production both locally and globally, this degree equips students to analyze food systems from an international standpoint and comprehend how policies and practices impact marginalized groups worldwide.

This degree embodies CSUCI’s mission to foster learning across disciplines, equipping students with a multicultural and global understanding of agriculture. It stands out within the California State University system by integrating scientific and social perspectives into a cohesive framework for sustainable food production.

Graduates of the Sustainable Agriculture program will be well-equipped for careers in farm advising, agricultural policy, food justice advocacy, research, and agribusiness. Their education ensures they contribute meaningfully to Ventura County’s fresh produce and horticulture industries while promoting environmental and social sustainability.
