The Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP): PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential is an 120 unit program for students who seek to earn their Early Childhood Studies Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) and a PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential (with the option to earn Bilingual Authorization in an additional semester) in a concentrated 4 year program.
To be eligible for admission into the program, students must:
- Complete two years in the Early Childhood Studies major at California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) OR earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (AS-T) in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development at a California Community College BEFORE applying to the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential.
- Students who have not completed two years in the Early Childhood Studies major at CSUCI or have completed a transfer program in a major other than Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development may still apply, but cannot complete the degree and credential in four years. Students who are non-ECS or Child Development majors must also complete 24 semester units or the equivalent quarter units of non-remedial, degree-applicable coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education in early childhood education and/or child development BEFORE entering the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential.
- Transfer students and students currently enrolled at CSUCI must have a GPA of at least 2.67 in order to declare the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential as their major.
- Meet all statutory requirements for entry to the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential.
Earning a PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential will authorize the holder to teach all subjects in a self-contained general education classroom setting and to team teach or to regroup students across classrooms, in preschool through grade three (please note that to earn the credential, teacher candidates must successfully complete and pass all Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) mandated assessments).
