Note:

Transfer students from community colleges must be GE-Certified or additional coursework will be required to meet CSUCI requirements. A maximum of 70 units can be transferred.

Students who have successfully completed a Registered Nursing program at a community college will be awarded 15.5 upper division units for nursing courses completed at the community college upon passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) - RN.

Requirements for Admission

Application - Apply to both the University and the Nursing Program.

Prerequisite Courses - Specific courses listed in the major below

License - Have or be eligible to acquire a valid California RN license.

Degree - Be a graduate of a BRN approved pre-licensure degree program from an accredited educational institution.

Insurance/Health Clearance - Students in the nursing program are required to have health insurance, demonstrate a sufficient immunization record consistent with that required of clinical placement in local health care agencies and pass a physical examination.

Background Check/Drug Screening - Criminal background check and drug screening must be completed before clinical placement.

Grade Point Average - An overall GPA of 2.5 or greater in the prerequisite nursing courses with no grade lower than a C.

Criteria for Program Continuance


  1. Nursing majors must attain grades of “C” or better in all required nursing and non-nursing courses. Required nursing courses for which the student earns less than a grade of C may be repeated once with instructor consent but only on a space available basis.
  2. Students in the nursing major must maintain good academic standing. Students on academic probation are not permitted to enroll in a nursing course until the probation has been removed.

Note:


  1. For BS Nursing major only, both American Institutions courses are allowed to double-count with GE Area D.
  2. Second baccalaureate Nursing students will not need to complete GE Areas A-E and American Institutions Requirements.​

Additional General Education and other Graduation Requirements


To graduate, students must complete 120 units minimum (40 units must be upper division), including the following General Education (GE) and Graduation Requirements:

  • Additional lower division GE Area A-E requirements not met within the major
  • American Institutions Requirement
  • Language Requirement (C- or better grade)
  • Multicultural Perspectives (MP) Mission Pillar Requirement
  • Nine units of Upper Division General Education (UDGE) courses, one each in Areas UDGE-B, UDGE-C, and UDGE-D
  • Free electives as needed to meet minimum units for graduation
