The Department of Public and Global Affairs at CSU Channel Islands offers multiple degree programs centered on developing civic engagement and global citizenship. We focus on long-term student success expressly tied to the Mission Pillars: Community engagement, interdisciplinary approaches, and international and multicultural perspectives. The Department is home to: two undergraduate majors (Global Studies and Political Science); six undergraduate minors (Global Studies, Peace and Conflict Resolution, Political Science, Pre-Law, Public Administration, and Public Policy); and the Master of Public Administration.

Our department ethos is one of student-centered flexibility and life-long public service. Our undergraduate programs are designed to be welcoming to all students seeking to make a difference in the world. Facilitated admissions protocols are in place for CSUCI undergraduates in any major wishing to pursue a Master of Public Administration. Interested students should contact Dr. Dana Lee Baker at dana.baker@csuci.edu.

Our faculty works in a broad spectrum of areas related to Public and Global Affairs. Recent works published by faculty in the Department of Public and Global Affairs include: Mind Games: Contestations in the Politics of Neurodiversity by Dana Lee Baker (co-authored with Matthew Mendez Garcia) and Neuroethical Policy Design: A Lifetime’s Exploration of Public Policy and Human Brains by Dana lee Baker (co-authored with Raquel Lizette Baker); Maneuver and Exploit: Global South Foreign Policy in Transnational Context by Andrea Grove and American Foreign Policy Since World War II, Twenty-Second Edition by Andrea Grove (co-authored with Steven W. Hook and John W. Spanier); and Cheese Factories on the Moon: Why Earmarks are Good in American Democracy by Scott A. Frisch and Sean Kelly.

A wide away of internship, research, and other opportunities exist. Some notable examples of this include our Model United Nations program, our engaged research program, and public sector and pre-law internships. Students are strongly encouraged to join the relevant program advising courses in CI learn to become up to date on activities and opportunities.

Course schedules are made in accordance with a four semester course rotation for the undergraduate programs and a three semester course rotation for the Master of Public Administration.  Rotations are updated each time a new instructional budget is provided to the department. The rotation is available online at: https://polsci.csuci.edu/programs/
