HLTH 103 - Culture and Health

Three hours lecture per week
This course explores the complex relationship between culture, health, and healthcare access, focusing on how cultural norms, beliefs, and practices shape health outcomes at both the individual and community levels. Students will examine how social determinants of health and structural factors-including history, power, and privilege-affect health disparities and equity. The course will analyze how cultural and environmental factors influence healthcare delivery, systems, and health behaviors, differentiating between individual and population health. Using case studies, discussions, and reflection, students will enhance their cultural sensitivity and develop strategies for overcoming systemic barriers to healthcare access while promoting health equity.
