HLTH 315 - Public Policy for Older Adults Units: 3 Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite(s): HLTH 102 and HLTH 301 This course explores the history and varied influence of public policy on the quality of life of older adults in an American context. Key federal, state, and local policies and programs (e.g., Social Security, Medicare, etc.) are examined and critically evaluated for their impacts, longevity, political support/opposition, and sustainability. The process of policy formation, the political construction and influence of older Americans, and the role of other stakeholders in aging policy (e.g., special interest groups) are also explored.
