ECS 351 - ITEP Early Language and Literacy in Multilingual Classrooms in PK, TK, and Early Elementary II Units: 3 Two hours lecture and two hours activity per week Prerequisite(s): ECS 350
Understanding of the theory, research, and practice of teaching early language and literacy in multilingual classrooms (preschool, TK, and early elementary). Engaging and supporting children’s language and literacy development by utilizing teaching strategies that infuse family funds of knowledge, culturally sustaining pedagogy, inclusive instruction, and are reflective of the communities of young learners. Exploration and use of various language and literacy assessment methods for young learners. Field work is required - students must complete field site requirements such as a Negative TB Skin Test (less than a year old), immunization record, Live scan fingerprinting, or Certificate of Clearance. Some sites may have additional requirements. Graded: Letter Grade
