SOC 385 - Social Psychology

Three hours lecture per week
Prerequisite(s): SOC 100 , SOC 201 , and SOC 202  (SOC 201 and/or SOC 202 may be taken concurrently)
Provides broad overview of theories and methods of sociological social psychology, the way groups and social structures shape individuals-their perceptions, beliefs, identities, attitudes, emotions, and behaviors-and how individuals acting together create, maintain, and change social structures.  Special attention is paid to social psychological mechanisms of inequality by using social psychological concepts (e.g., status, bias, power, justice, stigma, identity, culture, socialization) to identify how inequality is created, reproduced, and resisted.
