Roadmap Freshman - 4 year: Chicana/o Studies, B.A.


To be in compliance with new GE pattern. 

We propose 3 additional units of Upper Division Electives under new section titled “Ethnic Studies” to provide students with an opportunity to enroll in a Black Studies, Asian Amerian Studies and Native American and Indigenous Studies course.  

Year 1 - 31 units

Units: 3 Any Spanish or Mixtec Language course or any Upper Division Spanish course. MIXT 101, SPAN 101, 102, 201, 202 211, and 212 can triple count for major, GE: 3B and Language Graduation Requirement (note: units may be 3-4 depending on course chosen).
  • Student’s Choice of Free Elective Course. Units: 3 Needed for 120 Unit Requirement - Can be any class, any major, any level 100-299 because student will be under 60 units at the time​.

    • Participate in the Chicana/Latina Retreat Attend Noche de Familia event in February
    • Seek a leadership position in a student organization
    • Apply for internships, study abroad, or a research opportunity (depending on interests)
    • Consider adding a minor or double major (consult with advisor)

  • Student’s Choice of Major History and Society Course. Units: 3 (HIST 350 meets the US History graduation requirement and CHS 402 meets Upper-Division Subject Area 4 • Social and Behavioral Sciences) CHS 350 is offered every semester.
