This minor prepares students to pursue a credential in one of the following areas: multiple subject (elementary education), single subject (secondary education) and education specialist (special education). All courses need a C or better to pass.

Core Requirements - 9 units

All students take the following three courses.

EDUC 412 - Equity, Diversity, and Foundations of Schooling Units: 3
EDUC 475 - Language In Social Context (Cross-listed as ENGL 475) Units: 3
SPED 345 - Individuals with Disabilities in Society Units: 3

Credential-Specific Requirements:

Students will choose one of the following credential pathways for the remaining 8 units in the minor.

Elementary Education Requirements - 8 units

Students who are pursing a multiple subject credential take the following two courses.

Secondary Education - 8 units

Students who are pursuing a single subject credential take the following two courses.

EDSS 415 - Adolescent Development for Secondary Educators Units: 3
EDSS 424 - Creating and Managing Effective Secondary School Learning Environments Units: 5

Special Education Requirements - 8 units

Students pursing an education specialist credential take the following courses:

SPED 410 - Typical and Atypical Development Units: 3
Complete one of the following:
EDMS 422 - Creating and Managing Effective Elementary School Learning Environments Units: 5
or
EDSS 424 - Creating and Managing Effective Secondary School Learning Environments Units: 5
