Two Year Academic Roadmap

Welcome to Anthropology at CI! Started in 2012, our program offers a broad holistic perspective on humans as social, cultural, and biological beings. Our curriculum crosscuts different subfields of anthropology - sociocultural, linguistic, archaeological, and biological - to address major themes that are relevant to understanding people today.

Year 1 - 30 units

Fall Junior - 15 units

ANTH 375 - Qualitative Research Methods in Anthropology Units: 3
ANTH 375 is only offered in the Fall semester
POLS 150 - American Political Institutions Units: 3
Also, double-counts with GE:D. Take this course if still needed. Otherwise, take a Free Elective.
ANTH 352 - Applied Anthropology Units: 3
UDGE D - Student’s Choice of UDGE-D: Social Sciences course - 3 unit Units: 3
Consider taking ANTH 323, 327, 332, 442, 443, 444, 446 to meet the UDGE-D requirement and major elective
15 units of Anthropology Major Electives are required. Any upper division ANTH courses that has not already been used for the major. See catalog for course titles & descriptions
Complete one from the following:
ANTH 376 - Quantitative Methods in Anthropology Units: 3
ESRM 328 - The Why of Where: Foundations in GIS Units: 3

Recommendations/Notes
- This two-year roadmap assumes that all GE’s and Lower Division Major Requirements have been completed.
- Schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor in the Academic Advising Center
- Attend Major Fair (First Week of October)

Spring Junior - 15 units

ANTH 377 - Archaeological Method And Theory Units: 3
ANTH 470 - The Development of Anthropological Perspectives Units: 3
UDGE C - Student’s Choice of UDGE-C: Arts and Humanities course - 1 unit Units: 1
Student’s Choice of Major Elective course . Units: 3

Student’s Choice of HIST - US History course. Units: 3
Choose one: HIST 270, 271, 272, 275, or CHS 350. Take this course if still needed. Otherwise, take a Free Elective.

ANTH 489 - Professionalism In Anthropology Units: 3
Prerequisite for ANTH 499 - must be taken prior to ANTH 499 enrollment.
UDGE B - Student’s Choice of UDGE-B: Scientific Inquiry and Quantitative Reasoning course - 3 units Units: 3
Strongly suggested to take ANTH 345 to meet the UDGE-B requirement and major elective (if choosing a different course other than ANTH 345 for UDGE-B you will need to take an additional elective.
If UDGE-B has been met, choose an Anthropology elective of your choice.
Student’s Choice of Major Elective course . Units: 3

Recommendations/Notes
- Apply for Graduation (Priority deadline - October 1st)
- Attend Grad Check workshop or schedule a Grad Check appointment with Academic Advising - Meet w/Career Development & Alumni Engagement to learn more about Alumni services
- Meet with your program faculty advisor at least once before you graduate (either in the Fall or Spring semester)
