The Minor in Art History offers the opportunity to learn ways to view and interpret the visually complex world in which we live today and to shape the world in which we will live tomorrow.  The study of art history builds powers of observation, awareness of historical and social contexts, and critical analysis skills.  It offers new perspectives and methods to apply to questions within any discipline in the humanities and social sciences and enriches understanding of human creative activity more broadly.  Students majoring in biology and chemistry often minor in art history and go on to careers in art conservation, while art studio majors find that an enhanced engagement with art history enriches their artistic practice and opens additional career and graduate school pathways.

Twenty-one units to be taken from among the following courses, a minimum of 12 units of which must be taken at the upper division level. Transfer students may petition the Art Program chair or advisor for minor credit for courses without articulation at CI.  The Minor in Art History is open to all students except those majoring in Art: Art History Emphasis, including all options.
