Area D: Social Sciences

The courses in this area enhance student knowledge of the complex cultural and institutional world in which we live. Each course examines relationships among various cultures and institutions that shape our social, economic, psychological, and political realities. Using the lenses of the social sciences, students gain insight and understanding of the social, political, historical, economic, educational, or behavioral aspects of world cultures and systems, including the ways in which these interact and influence each other. Courses that fulfill the U.S. Constitution and California State and Local Government American Institutions requirements may double count in this area.

Students must complete a minimum of two courses in Area D and one course in Area UDGE-D. Students must also ensure they complete courses from at least two disciplines (e.g. ANTH and BUS, or BUS and CHS, etc.).
