SR 10-01 - Storage of SRT data in Faculty Personnel Action Files Senate Resolution File: SR 10-01 Storage of SRT data in Faculty Personnel Action Files
Senate Resolution Whereas the Constitution of the Academic Senate of Channel Islands defines the duties and responsibilities of the Academic Senate as developing and recommending policies to the campus president on a range of matters including criteria and standards for the evaluation of faculty and the academic role of technology; and
Whereas the Academic Senate, in passing SR 08-01 and 08-02 adopted the on line administration of the Student Rating of Teaching; and
Whereas the Faculty Affairs Office entered into a series of negotiations with the California Faculty Association from June-November, 2009 regarding how the electronic versions of the Student Ratings ofTeaching (SRT) would be stored and administered; and
Whereas, negotiations succeeded on all points of contention but one; and
Whereas, negotiations failed on the point of electronic storage and access (CI position) rather than placing printed copies of the SRTs in all faculty Personnel Action Files (PAFs) (CFA position); and
Whereas, the arbitration decision, having ruled the issue not arbitrable, explicitly declines to rule on the merits of the disagreement and declines to mandate future actions to be taken by CI; and
Whereas the CFA and the Chancellor’s Office have reached contradictory conclusions regarding future actions; and
Whereas, the Faculty Affairs Office seeks the will of the Senate;
Be it resolved that the Academic Senate supports continuing the practice of placing printed copies of student evaluations in the current version of the PAF until that time that the CBA or a ruling on the CBA provides clear guidance as to the permissibility of electronic storage and access of SRTs.
