Senate Resolution
WHEREAS, California State University Channel Islands has committed to becoming a more environmentally sustainable campus; and,

WHEREAS, California State University Channel Islands has demonstrated leadership by taking steps to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, adopting sustainable practices, providing knowledge and educating students on climate change and signing the Talloires Declaration; and,

WHEREAS, the California State University Channel Islands campus has the opportunity to distinguish itself by becoming a leader in innovative sustainability and energy efficiency practices; and,

WHEREAS, the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment can serve as a guiding document for California State University Channel Islands to show a greater commitment to environmental sustainability; be it therefore

RESOLVED: that the California State University Channel Islands Academic Senate commend the Academic Senate of the California State University for unanimously passing a resolution (AS-3110) urging the CSU and CSU campuses to become signatories to the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the California State University Channel Islands Academic Senate commend California State Universities at Bakersfield, Chico, Fullerton, Long Beach, Monterey Bay, Northridge, as well as San Francisco State University and California State Polytechnic at Pomona for committing to environmental sustainability by signing the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the California State University Channel Islands Academic Senate recommend that California State University Channel Islands and all California State Universities including the Chancellor’s office show a greater commitment to environmental sustainability by becoming signatories of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the California State University Channel Islands Academic Senate recommend that California State University Channel Islands take tangible actions to reduce GHG emissions, develop a comprehensive plan to dramatically reduce GHG emissions within a reasonable amount of time, and perform a GHG inventory and assessment of campus sustainability periodically; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the California State University Channel Islands Academic Senate distribute this resolution to:
The President of CSU Channel Islands
The Provost and Vice-Presidents of CSU Channel Islands
The Student Government of CSU Channel Islands
The Academic Senate of the CSU
The Chancellor and Office of the Chancellor of the CSU
