Drafted By: Senate Executive Committee Purpose: To support the appointment of a Faculty Trustee to the CSU Board of Trustees.
Senate Resolution WHEREAS: The Faculty Trustee is a significant part of effective shared governance in the CSU system; and
WHEREAS: The Academic Senate CSU (ASCSU) followed appropriate procedures and forwarded two nominees for CSU Faculty Trustee to Governor Brown on March 21, 2013; and
WHEREAS: The Governor has not appointed a Faculty Trustee, leaving CSU faculty without a faculty vote in Board deliberations; and
WHEREAS: The Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) “recognizes that joint decision making and consultation between administration and faculty or academic employees is the long-accepted manner of governing institutions of higher learning and is essential to the performance of the educational missions of these institutions” (cf. 3561b); therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of Channel Islands affirms the Academic Senate of the California State University resolution of concern over the delay in the Governor’s appointment of a CSU Faculty Trustee (http://www.calstate.edu/acadsen/Records/Resolutions/2013-2014/documents/3141.shtml); and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate urge Governor Brown to appoint a Faculty Trustee in time for the Faculty Trustee to participate in the next CSU Board of Trustees Meeting.
