Senate Resolution Resolution: Commendation and Appreciation of the work of University Founder Dr. Stephen Lefevre
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen Lefevre joined Channel Islands in 1998 when it was still the California State University Northridge Ventura campus, and
WHEREAS, his work as Director of CSUN’s off-campus centers in Ventura and later in Camarillo set the stage for a successful transition to a four year university as CSU Channel Islands, and
WHEREAS, once that transition occurred, Dr. Lefevre served the faculty tirelessly as Dean of the Faculty from 2002 to 2005 and more recently as Associate Vice President for Academic Programs and Planning, and
WHEREAS, in his work with faculty as a degree builder, Dr. Lefevre guided and smoothed relationships between the local community college faculty and administrators, the faculty and staff of CI, and other stakeholder communities we serve with tact, grace and skill, and
WHEREAS, his style and imprimatur is on each of the University Catalogs since 2005-2006, and
WHEREAS, in the last several years he navigated the difficult terrain of program reviews, program development, and the shape-shifting Academic Master Plan, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lefevre demonstrated his commitment to University Access for all through his work with such programs as the Pre-doctoral program, and the Title V/Oxnard Scholars Program;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the faculty of the CSU Channel Islands Academic Senate do hereby express our admiration and our thanks to Dr. Stephen Lefevre for his steadfast leadership, vision, wisdom and decency, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we are heartily grateful that the ‘hired gun’ from Tyler, Texas put down his six-shooter in favor of a rousing round of golf or a good headwind under full sail, so that on the occasion of his retirement we wish him
GOOD SAILING, Steve, and hit ‘em long and straight!
