SR 09-06 - Commendation D. Muraoka

Commendation and Appreciation of the work of Founding Faculty Member
Dr. Dennis Muraoka

WHEREAS, Dr. Dennis Muraoka has served the CSU since 1981, first at CSU Long Beach, and later, as one of the founding faculty members of CSUCI; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Muraoka served the CI community in a variety of key leadership and creative roles as a faculty member and as Interim Associate Provost, including: the interdisciplinary model of teaching that links student learning to site-based experiences, such as The Zoo; serving as first Chair of the Academic Senate; representing the faculty as Academic Senator at the CSU AS meetings, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Muraoka developed and led our innovative campus-wide effort that led to WASC accreditation under new and untried regulations, in the earliest time frame possible, and for the maximum seven year period; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Muraoka embodies the spirit of collegiality and inclusiveness, with his warmth, good humor, and the ease with which he welcomes newcomers to the campus; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Muraoka is returning to the faculty in the fall through the Faculty Early Retirement Program;
Be it Resolved that we, the members of The CSUCI Academic Senate, express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Muraoka for his tireless and selfless efforts on behalf of the campus, its faculty and students; and
Be it Further Resolved that The CSUCI Academic Senate wishes Dr. Muraoka a very happy and lengthy retirement so that he can continue to work on one hell of a tennis game.
