SR 09-05 - Carnegie Classification Senate Resolution File: SR 09-05 Carnegie Classification
Purpose: To support the application for the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement. In spring 2006, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning modernized its original classification system for institutions of higher education and introduced the elective classification “Community Engagement” as part of its new system. This classification exemplifies that a central feature of the institution’s identity and culture is service to the community as demonstrated by faculty, staff and students. In this elective category, institutions now submit data on community engagement to Carnegie for review, instead of using national data to determine ranking. After the current application cycle, the next application cycle will be in 2015.
