SP 13-02 - Policy on Undergraduate Unit Load Limitation (supersedes SP 03-04) Approve Date: November 12, 2013 Policy File: SP 13-02 Policy on Undergraduate Unit Load Limitation
Drafted By: Student Academic Policies and Procedures: Sean Carswell, Gina Farrar, Erich Fleming, Tiina Itkonen (Co-Chair), Christina Smith, Cindy Wyels (Chair) Purpose: To establish unit load limitations for undergraduate students
Background: SP 03-04 establishes unit load limitations for undergraduate students and provides a means for exceeding such limitations. This revised policy maintains existing policy for students in good academic standing while creating a lower unit load limitation for students on academic probation. It also includes a procedure that students on academic probation may pursue to exceed the new limitation.
Applicability: All CSU Channel Islands undergraduate students
Policy:
- An undergraduate student in good academic standing may enroll in up to 18 units without advisor approval.
- An undergraduate student on academic probation may enroll in up to 13 units without advisor approval.
- Undergraduate students in good academic standing who wish to enroll in more than 18 units are required to have
- written approval from the chair or a faculty advisor in the student’s declared major, as specified by the major program, or
- written approval from an academic advisor if the student has not yet declared a major.
- Undergraduate students on academic probation who wish to enroll in more than 13 units are required to have an academic advisor’s written approval.
