SP 01-39 Policy on Course Grade Appeals (Formerly “SR 39-01”) (superseded by SP 11-05)  

Policy:
  1. Each student has the right to appeal the final course grade, but only the final course grade. A student may not appeal individual assignments and examinations.
  2. Appeals are limited to situations in which the student believes the grade was “prejudicially,” “capriciously,” or “artbitrarily” assigned.
  3. The appeal must be initiated within the first regular semester after assignment of the grade. It must first be directed to the instructor of the course, orally or in writing. If further action is necessar, the student should appeal in writing to the program coordinator. If further action is necessary, the issue may be appealed to the University Grade Appeals Committee. 
  4. The University Grade Appeals Committee shall consist of faculty and at least one student.
  5. Individuals may not particupate as a member of the University Grade Appeals Committee in the review of an appeal if they are participant in an appeal. 
  6. The decision of the University Grade Appeals Committee is final.
