MATH 331 - History of Mathematics

Three hours lecture per week
Prerequisite: Junior Standing or Consent of Instructor
Description: Study of breakthrough mathematical ideas and their creators, including historical and scientific context. Important concepts of current mathematics are studied: inception, development, difficulties, significance and various viewpoints will be presented. Lecture-discussion. At least one significant writing assignment is required.
