ART 343 - Medieval Art: Diversity, Faith and Power

Three hours lecture per week
Explores the diversity of the arts, architecture, and visual and material culture of Europe, Central and Western Asia, and North Africa, ca. 200-1300 CE. Examines artworks and objects created within pagan, Jewish, Christian, and Islamic contexts; investigates the major social, political, religious, historical, and cross-cultural influences on the visual arts and architecture during this period; and reflects on the roles of historical artworks in the contemporary world.
